DAUGHTER OF DATA

liveshow

Daughter of Data is an immersive audiovisual live performance by MONOMONO/IIIOIIOIIIOIIO, inspired by the story of Hypatia of Alexandria and the urgent relevance of knowledge, data, and misinformation today. The show blends a powerful acoustic foundation—violin, ancient Greek lyre, ceramic marimba, and flute—with evolving electronic textures, driving rhythms, and a steadily increasing physical intensity. Developed in collaboration with Berlin-based motion designer Weltraumgrafik, the four-screen visual system is generated live and synchronized with the music through real-time control, allowing visuals to respond directly to rhythm, dynamics, and timbre. The result is a visceral, cosmic, and contemporary performance that adapts seamlessly to different venues and stage layouts, making it great for festivals, concert halls, and experimental performance spaces.

Daughter of Datis MONOMONO’s latest album, inspired by the life and legacy of Hypatia of Alexandria, one of history’s first recorded female scientists and a symbol of the pursuit of knowledge through observation, measurement, and inquiry. Across twelve tracks, the duo translates themes of science, astronomy, and human curiosity into a richly layered sonic landscape where acoustic instruments—including violin, ancient lyre, flute, harp, and ceramic marimba—intertwine with electronic textures and evolving rhythms. Composed, performed, and produced by MONOMONO (Anne van de Star and Hester Bolle), with contributions from Michiel De Malsche, Laura De Jongh, Brecht Plasschaert, Aram Abgaryan, Frederik Brandt Jakobsen, and Phil Schöll, the album is both an exploration of our relationship to knowledge and a reflection on navigating an increasingly complex digital age. Discover more about the album, its creation, and the people behind it in the Electronic Press Kit.
